First things first – what is your walk-on-stage music?
Good as Hell by Lizzo featuring Ariana Grande.
When did you start your business, and why did you create it?
I tell people that I’ve been marketer since the age of 6. Competing in beauty pageants has always motivated me to learn how to put my best foot forward and speaking up not just for myself but for others as well. I officially launched Sunflower Media in 2018. I created the agency because I have such a passion for helping people tell their stories on social media and making genuine connections with their audience.
Tell us about your business and what makes you unique in your field.
Sunflower Media is a full-service marketing and creative content management agency that specializes in creative branding, social media, and digital growth. We focus on helping small and medium businesses tell real brand stories while increasing brand loyalty, reach, and engagement.
What do you feel makes your audience special?
Sunflower Media is focused on putting the success of our clients before our own. Our main goal is helping them expand their brands and reach customers in a way that is authentic and genuine.
If you could magically give all of your community members one thing in this world, what would it be, and why?
If I could magically give all of my community members one thing, it would be free digital advertising because it can get EXPENSIVE super fast!
Has anything surprised you about starting a website?
What surprised me about starting a website was how fun it can be. I had tons of fun designing my website (even though I had tons of edits). Learning how to access features and working on different platforms has taught me so much.
Did you create your own website or hire it out? Do you use WordPress?
I did create my own website using Wix but I am currently working on moving things over to SquareSpace. WordPress is just too complicated for me and I don’t currently have the budget to hire a WordPress web designer.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting their own business?
For anyone considering starting a business, my biggest piece of advice would be to PLAN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! Make sure you have a back up plan for the original plan. I’d also tell them to always be ready to pivot.
How do you promote your site?
I promote my site via Google Search Console and Facebook ads. Other than that, people typically find the website via referral or from clicking on our website from a one of our social media profiles.
Who are your favorite bloggers or podcasts right now? Or what is an influential book that you’ve read lately?
I don’t read many blogs but I absolutely LOVE podcasts. One of my favorites is Professional Troublemaker, hosted by one of my favorite authors, Luvvie Ajayi. One influential book I am currently reading is Crazy Faith by Pastor Mike Todd!
