Natalie Hurdley is the most awesome online personal trainer you can take to the gym with you in your pocket. She will teach you (on a video call!!) how to use weight machines, the right amount of weight and repetitions for you, as well as coach you on all other aspects of staying fit. She’s got a fantastic English accent you won’t ever get tired of hearing as well as a contagious smile that will help you conquer your goals.
First things first – what would your walk-on-stage music be?
It’s My Life by Bon Jovi (editor’s note: what a fantastic choice. Great video too!)
When did you start your business, and why did you create it?
I started my business in 2005 when I was 17 years old. I grew up in sport, it taught me a lot & kept me out of trouble before an injury took it all away. I started my business because I wanted to help people like my coaches helped me, but without being restricted to one sport or one team.
Tell us about your business and what makes you unique in your field.
My 1:1 coaching helps busy, decision fatigued female CEO’s who know that their health is important but can’t seem to find a way to prioritise it. My membership, The Online Fitness Academy, is for motivated women who walk into a gym & end up going to the same thing every time because they don’t know what to do but keep going as something is better than nothing.
I think my uniqueness has changed over the years. When I started I was training amateur athletes & their parents. What made me special then was that I grew up in sport, performed under pressure at a high level so I could relate on multiple levels & I am the only child in a big family so I found it easy to talk to & communicate clearly with people older than me. Now I would say it depends on who’s asking, if you are competitive and like sport, then the fact that I represent Team Great Britian & last year won 3 Gold medals is one thing. But what I would say is that I break things down into small, simple, actionable steps so that busy women can implement it into their lives without sacrificing the things they love, whether that be bedtime with family, on their business or food.
What do you feel makes your audience special?
They are all so much stronger than they think & as soon as we prove to them what they are capable of, the ripple effect & confidence is magical.
If you could magically give all of your community members one thing in this world, what would it be, and why?
Confidence in their physical abilities. It pains me how many women come to me who are scared or anxious of the gym or lifting weights.
Did you create your own website or hire it out? Do you use WordPress?
I use Kajabi, I hired a branding specialist and she did the website too. I am tweaking it myself atm.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting their own business?
Chase the no’s, embrace them, learn from them. Every one of them takes you closer to a yes so the more you collect the more you will grow.
If you could go back in time and do something differently, what would you do and why?
I would be more confident in asking for the sale & for feedback. It took me too long to get there. Now I am there, I feel how powerful it is & how painful it was before.
Do you have an email list? If so, did you start it when you launched?
I started my email list at the end of 2020.
Is this your only job? Did you launch your business while working another job?
Only thing I have ever done.
How do you promote your site?
Socials & networking
Who are your favorite bloggers or podcasts right now? Or what is an influential book that you’ve read lately?
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I believe that we are all unique, different, our bodies, our goals, our lifestyles so we should exercise & eat that way. Make it fun & enjoy the journey.
