Nedra Rezinas is another new hero of mine – an expert in many things and an authentic teacher and leader. We also happen to be in the same mastermind (shout out to Michelle DeNio and the Accelerated Business Alliance) and I’m looking forward to learning more from her in the next few months.
Nedra is currently working her expertise as a marketing strategist and coach, having pivoted from many years in web design and other businesses in the online service space. You can find her wisdom on Instagram, connect with her on LinkedIn, and check out her website: nedrarezinas.com. She also has a great class called Reduce and Automate your Social Media: take the free class today (don’t mind if I do).
First things first – what would your walk-on-stage music be?
I’ve been obsessed with 90s music lately, so a Faith No More song like “We Care a Lot” would be epic!
When did you start your business, and why did you create it?
I’ve owned multiple businesses, my latest is a marketing strategy and coaching firm. I love helping my clients solve problems with their marketing and show them the many opportunities and ways to attract clients and be visible on their terms. It’s very rewarding to see a client transform and grow their business!
Tell us about your business and what makes you unique in your field.
I’m not your typical marketing person, I have my own challenges with social media. (Probably why I resisted going into marketing for a long time). However, since I can relate with my clients in finding alternatives to social media and instead, falling back on more networking, teaching, referral partners and other methods, you can get your life back and maintain a business. There are so many exciting ways to be visible without having to do Instagram Reels!
What do you feel makes your audience special?
They are usually introverted and are nervous about being visible. We talk through those mistaken beliefs and figure out their comfort level when working together. There is a lot of shame and embarrassment when it comes to marketing (almost as much as money/finance) so until you address that, you are going to have a challenging time with marketing. I get it and am there to support, not judge my clients!
If you could magically give all of your community members one thing in this world, what would it be, and why?
The gift to believe in themselves and accept that they are amazing. Every day I see the imposter syndrome and insecurity really eat away at my clients (both men and women). I would love to give them a dose of self-confidence and to trust themselves.
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting their own business?
Now is a great time to start a service-based business, there’s a lot of support out there and it’s never been easier to start something. Small Business Development Center, Canva, Calendly and SO many more tools and resources make it doable to start on a shoestring and experiment.
If you could go back in time and do something differently, what would you do and why?
I used to ponder this but now that I’m in my mid-forties, all of my experiences make up who I am. Yes, I have regrets and wouldn’t mind changing a few things but overall, every experience has shaped who I am. Every mistake has helped me learn and be a better person. So overall, no, I’m happy to be here in the present.
Do you have an email list? If so, did you start it when you launched?
Yes, I’m a big believer in email marketing. I launched it with my web design business back in 2007 but didn’t really know how to build it. Only in the last year and a half, did I figure out how to double it!
How do you promote your site?
A combination of ways: workshops, social media, email marketing, networking, etc.
Who are your favorite bloggers or podcasts right now? Or what is an influential book that you’ve read lately?
I read Pricing Creativity by Blair Enns and it blew my mind. High-quality stuff a colleague recommended to me. I’m a big fan of Donald Miller and building a story brand model. I listen to a few podcasts about business but find I want to listen to historic fiction or pop culture/news ones like It’s Been a Minute with Sam Sanders (I’ve been listening to this one since 2017!)
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I love connecting with other creatives like web designers and other marketing people, we end up referring to each other!
