Kara Bitar - Life Coach & Kundalini Yoga Instructor

Lawyer turned Life Coach/Yoga Instructor

I struggled with the title of this post, because Kara Bitar is not an ordinary Life Coach nor is she an ordinary Yoga instructor. Kara teaches people how to optimize their life, and she does this by teaching a variety of modalities, including Kundalini Yoga (aren’t you curious? I am! I can’t wait to take one of Kara’s classes!). This woman knows from experience how to change and optimize one’s life – her back story is beautiful, and the business she is creating is going to change lives. I’m thrilled to introduce you to Kara. You can find her at www.karanicolebitar.com.

When did you start your business, and why did you create it?

I started my business about a year ago.  I hold J.D. from Duke University School of Law and practiced high-stakes corporate litigation at one of the largest law firms in the Southeast.  Despite my success, I was unhappy.  On paper my life looked great.  An impressive resume, prestigious job, a beautiful home, beautiful clothes, and money.  I had everything I had planned my whole life for and worked so hard for.  Yet, I was unhappy.  I felt numb, going through the motions day after day.  At the same time, I was stressed out and plagued by thoughts of fear and unworthiness.  I eventually left my job.  It was an incredibly hard decision, but I wanted answers.  Was this all life was – work hard, sleep, eat, have some moments of joy here and there?  At work, I would ask my colleagues how they were, and they would sarcastically say “living the dream.”   The thing was – I wanted to live the dream.  I wanted joy, I wanted fun.  I wanted to wake up in the morning excited for the day.  I wanted to be filled with energy and zest for life.

After I left my job, I dedicated myself full time to finding answers.  I read, I researched, I took classes, I became trained and certified in a number of modalities.  I saw all sorts of healers, tried all sorts of diets and different things like saunas, float tanks and flower remedies.  After almost two years of trying so many different things, I felt worse than when I was working and questioned whether what I was searching for existed.

Thankfully, I eventually did find what I was looking for and I transformed my life.  I transformed my relationships, I transformed my body, I transformed my mind.  I stepped into my own creativity and joy.  I now show others how to do the same.  I do this through Optimization Programs, Optimization Coaching and Kundalini Yoga.

If you could magically give all of your community members one thing in this world, what would it be, and why?

The knowing of how much each one of them loves themselves.

Has anything surprised you about starting a website?

How much I enjoy working on it and how it has helped me express creatively.

Did you create your own website or hire it out?  Do you use WordPress?

I created my own using Squarespace.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting their own business?

Follow what you are passionate about, what energizes you, what lights and excites you. Whether this be starting your own business or something else.  We all have unique gifts and talents.  When we use those gifts and talents we thrive.  Through my own experience and my practice, it has been interesting to see how many people do not recognize their own gifts and talents.  It is like they are so used to having these gifts and talents, they don’t think they are anything special.  So then instead of honing in on their gifts and talents and using them, they ignore them in a sense or downplay them.  This is why I have found Soul Realignment® readings, which I do as part of my programs, so helpful for myself and my clients.  These readings give clarity as to what each person’s gifts are.  After the readings, people own and step into their gifts and talents more fully – which makes them happier, more energized and more abundant.

If you could go back in time and do something differently, what would you do and why?

Wow, I feel like I could do so many things differently and, at the same time, nothing at all.  The experiences I have had, as hard and challenging as they have been, put me in the position to help my clients in the ways that I do, because I understand what they are going through.  I also understand how to bring about change, because I have done it for myself.  Even so, did I need to suffer as much as I did?  Probably not.  So, if I could go back in time, what I would do is tell myself in those dark moments, that things will not just be okay, but they will be better than I could even imagine.  That this life is magnificent and beautiful.  And someday I will see that, and when I do, it will rock my world in the best way.

Did you launch your business while working another job?

No. When I started my business, I was not practicing law and had not been practicing for a couple of years.  I did not know I would end up starting a business.  My business started because when the methods and ways of transforming my life became clear to me and I also saw them work for others, it became my mission to continue to share these so others could live lives that they loved.

How do you promote your site?

I don’t do any promotion at this point.

Who are your favorite bloggers or podcasts right now?

I love podcasts.  What I listen to changes, right now I am enjoying “The Plant-proof Podcast.”
